And so to Fachwerk 24, the third of a five-part release schedule that culminates in a worldwide label tour. Again it’s the three friends behind the label who serve up the four tracks, and again they go straight to the darker recess of the dancefloor.
Main man Mike opens the EP with his slow-burning, steadily building ‘Avec’ which is all brushed metal surfaces, hidden kicks and icy hi-hats. Forever building it never breaks, keeping you on edge as a result.
Next, Roman Lindau’s ‘Plavix’ goes straight for the jugular with multiple drum lines layered on each other for a fulsome 4/4 sound. It’s a tribal take on techno fleshed out with clunking wooden hits and weird voices that make for engaging listening.
‘Traces Of’ sees Dehnert getting loose, with wild and untameable synths skewing in all directions as strong winds blow between the well swung kick drums that lurch below. Finally, Sascha Rydell drops ‘Tout Le Monde’ – an edgy, unresolved, forever hanging in the air tune with ticking perc, wailing bell sounds and more muted voices which, when heard on the right dancefloor and the right time, would quite frankly be scary and intimidating…
Functional and for the dancefloor these tracks certainly are, but they’re also designed in such a way – and from such an unusual palette of sound - that you tend to want to hear them over and over again just to try and work out what’s going on..
