b2. D5 - Network

Dark City is the second 12” done by D5. Just after the release of his very well received debut album “Alien Artform’ last month, we thought it should be good to get the whole picture at once. So this 12” presents another more straight up cut in as the previous 12” - leaving off with heavy dark beats, some very deeply funky synth twiddlings on top. Side b brings two more deeper, experimental cuts, more in style of his album. D5 is the moniker of John Harvey, entering the year 2002, 31 years old. In his early days he was into 80's synth-pop like the Human League. Hearing Chicago house (Adonis etc.) in 1987 inspired him to make music himself. After that hearing early Detroit techno and getting into all forms of dance music - early UK house/acid house/ /rave etc. as well as into hip hop. He made all of this kind of music until he caught-up with Detroit techno again in about 1995 hearing Kenny Larkin, Robert Hood, etc. and from then on he’s been influenced by this kind of music – soulful electronic-dance, which has resulted in this beautiful album ‘Alien Artform’, which was released last month. His outings already have resulted as well in an upcoming ep for Oliver Kapp’s Raygun label this summer.
