‘Messages’ is the first full length CD-album by Detroit’s collective Strand. It compiles the gorgeous techno-soul sounds of their three Message EP’s, previously only available on vinyl, together with two extra bonus tracks. Strand consists of Brian Boyer, Kech and B. Bonds (brother of Marty Bonds). The first release as Strand was together with Claude Young for Shake’s elusive Frictional label back in 1997, followed in 2000 by their first Message I EP. In 2001 and 2002 Amsterdam’s Delsin label released Message II and Message III. Their lush sounds are now for the first time available on the cd-market. The sounds of Strand end up somewhere between Shake’s freestyle techno approach and CiM’s soft electronic excursions; strings, melodies and gentle rhythms are all around, with tracks going all funky and soulful, techno in a very musical manner. It’s an excellent step in the continuing evolution of the Detroit techno sound!
